Family beach shoot in the Witterings

Natalie booked me for this shoot as a present for her husband Will. It was a little bit of a journey into the unknown for them as they've never had any professionals pics taken. In our initial chats on email about how I work and locations we were both assuming we would do the shoot in London near their home. When she commented on the Witterings being a favourite place I jumped at the chance - despite being a 2 hour drive for me. I was in the Lakes in a stunning bluebell wood on the Friday but very excited to be heading south for this shoot on the Saturday.

Both Natalie and I woke several times to pouring rain the night before....but we got our window of clear weather!


We took a few frames at their home near the beach to get the kids used to me and my kit:



But I was itching to get on the beach!

As the weather was overcast I could shoot almost anywhere on the beach - which meant a great mixture of dunes, grass and water. I just love the fact that these kids are adventurous. Oh and the girls are not 'girly girls'. Having a tomboy of my own it was perfect!





Near the beginning of our time on the beach Natalie said - I like those over there - pointing in the distance to something. On closer inspection I could see why and these images are the result - I loved them for their incredible graphic nature. Quite how Will managed to get up there is still a mystery.










The location and backdrops were a dream - the stunning dunes and grass but also the things battered by the elements - all peeling wood and rusted metal.

If only Natalie and I could remember who said what exactly...
